A Scenic Community Outing to Corinella | NDIS Social Support in Wonthaggi

From Stormy Skies to Sunshine in Corinella
Last week, our Wonthaggi-based social support group set off on a scenic road trip to Corinella — a wonderful example of community participation through our NDIS Social Support programs in Gippsland.
The morning began with rain, thunder, and lightning, but as often happens in coastal Victoria, the weather soon cleared. The sunshine came out just in time for the group to enjoy a relaxed and refreshing day by the bay.
Exploring the Gardens and Westernport Bay
Our first stop was the beautiful gardens at Fig and Bay Café in Corinella. The group enjoyed a peaceful walk through the gardens before heading along a nearby track overlooking Westernport Bay.
Participants admired the view across the water, spotting French Island in the distance and watching a graceful row of black swans gliding across the bay. Moments like these highlight the value of outdoor community access — fresh air, movement, and shared experiences all contributing to wellbeing.
Community outings like this form part of our structured Social Support Groups, designed to promote inclusion, confidence, and independence.
Lunch, Laughter and Local Connections
After the walk, the group returned to Fig and Bay Café for a well-earned drink and lunch. The meals were delicious, and Paul’s waffles were a standout favourite of the day.
These shared meals are more than just food — they are opportunities to build friendships, practice social skills, and strengthen community connections in a supportive environment.
Participants who receive Support Coordination often include community participation and social confidence goals in their NDIS plans. Outings like this help bring those goals to life.
Discovering Local Art in Anderson
On the way home, the group made a stop at a gallery in Anderson. While photos weren’t permitted inside, everyone enjoyed admiring the colourful glass artworks and unique designs on display.
Experiencing local art encourages curiosity, creativity, and appreciation for regional talent — another meaningful aspect of inclusive disability activities across Gippsland.
Supporting Meaningful Community Participation in Bass Coast
At Headway Gippsland, we believe that social support is about more than just activities — it’s about building confidence, fostering connection, and helping participants feel part of their community.
Through our Plan Management services, we also help participants manage their NDIS funding smoothly so they can access outings and experiences like these with ease.
