Lynne McIntyre has been interested in martial arts all her adult life, having won an Australian championship in Taekwondo for the first time in 2004.
More recently, during Melbourne’s lockdown in 2021, Lynne began doing Filipino martial arts, via zoom, in the style of “Eskrima”, also known as ” Anis ” or ” Kali “.
Over the past 12 months, facilitated by her NDIS package, she has been travelling to Frankston and Epping, Victoria, to practise this art form.
Two foot sticks are the focus, representing a bladed weapon, such as a sword.
In September 2023 Lynne qualified to represent Australia in the Eskrima event at the World Championships in Cebu, Philippines.
With the support of the Australian team, she competed in the tournament in July 2024.
Australia had a team of 16 and there were approximately 19 countries represented at these World Championships in this form of martial arts.
Lynne entered three events: Traditional form, Knife point (foam knife!!) and Padded Stick.
Lynne won gold medal in all three events in her age group as Australia finished 4th overall on the medal table.
Congratulations to Lynne, who will be a performer in our Inclusive Inspirations Talent and Arts Expo to be held at Morwell Senior Citizens Club on Wednesday, December 4.
Lynne is one of many artists appearing in the Headway Gippsland inaugural event, showcasing the region’s most talented people with disabilities.
